Service Type: Field Services, Engineering Fabrication, Cranes & Logistics and Project Management

Project Summary

Melco Engineering were engaged by Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal to undertake field maintenance on Berths 3 & 4 at the Hay Point located Coal Handling Terminal.

The field maintenance was focused on the berth 3 & 4 piles, berthing fender frames and dolphin connection trusses. This was required due to the damage caused when a barge broke away from its moorings during Cyclone Dylan (category 2), making contact at numerous points along the berths.

Melco project managers worked closely with the client to execute maintenance works throughout two key shutdown periods, with the site returned to the principal on time at the end of the shutdown without delay. Key involvement of Melco Project Managers throughout the planning stages allowed cost savings through the design and fabrication of customised berth access platforms. These platforms enhanced accessibility whilst eliminating potentially onerous, hazardous and costly access options in respect to the works required. Project managers also worked closely with the client to monitor and execute emergent works to ensure all necessary repairs were completed.

Melco complied with a number of standards throughout the project inclusive of but not limited to AS1554.1, AS1554.5, AS3992, AS4100 and various surface treatment standards.

The Melco scope included various site maintenance activities, various component design and fabrication and surface treatment of Berths 3 & 4 and encompassed 18,000 labour hours over two shutdown periods.
