Project Summary

Melco Engineering were engaged by AirEng to undertake the refurbishment, manufacture and delivery of a modularised ventilation fan and duct system. The end client for this supply was BMA Broadmeadows Mine Site.

The overall module consisted of two (2) refurbished air ventilation fan units, four (4) newly fabricated air ventilation ducts, four (4) newly fabricated transition ducts, two (2) newly fabricated evase outlet ducts and two (2) newly fabricated extension collars, one (1) newly fabricated plenum, handrailing and access stairways.

The plenum was unique and specialised in design as it is the only plenum in the southern hemisphere with a four-way outlet.

Melco project managers worked closely with the client to monitor and report on project progress in respect of key deliverables and execute effective management of emergent works in order to ensure compatibility between the Melco project deliverables and the client’s project deliverables.

Works included mechanical alignment of 400kW fan units followed by Factory Acceptance Test, plate and structural fabrication.

Welding standards complied with throughout works execution included but was not limited to AS1554.1 GP, AS1554.1 SP, AS4100 and various surface treatment standards as per client speciation.

The Melco scope included fabrication, assembly and transport and newly designed plenum and ventilation ducts and encompassed 3,000 labour hours over a seven (7) month duration.
