Project Details

Project: Supply & Installation of Concentrate & Tailing Sumps
Client: BMA Saraji
Service Type: Engineering Fabrication, On-site Installation and Project Management
Value: $1.5m
Completion: August 2014

Project Summary

Melco Engineering were engaged by BMA to undertake the supply, manufacture and installation of a Concentrate & Tailing Sumps for the Saraji Mine Coal Site.

The overall installation consisted of one concentrate sump, two (2) tailings sumps, a froth pipe line, filtrate piping, filtrate pumps, and gravity pipeline. Works included throughout the project included plate, piping, electrical, structural and mechanical installations.

The purpose of the newly designed Concentrate & Tailings Sumps was to increase capacity levels, addressing the inefficiencies caused by the Coal Preparation Plant’s previous maximum efficient design capacity. This increase in capacity levels improved production, improved the Coal Handling Preparation Plant’s (CHPP) water balance and allowed the ability to mass flow measure on the two product conveyors. Further, reliability and maintainability was achieved through installing two (2) new tailing sumps as opposed to the original configuration of one (1).

Melco complied with a number of standards throughout the project inclusive of but not limited to AS1554.1, AS4100 and various surface treatment standards.

The Melco scope included fabrication, assembly, transport and site installation of the newly designed Concentrate & Tailing Sumps and encompassed 10,000 labour hours.
